The Loomo robot sidekick and mini-personal transporter made its first public debut at CES 2017 and we shared it with you in the {DeviceDiary} ahead of the next public showing at CES 2018 (High Tech Treats in {Device Diary} Vol. 12, the Architechnologist, December 18, 2017). The response to the amazing device in Las Vegas made it one of the media darlings of the show.
Segway Robotics is bringing the Loomo to the public today through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo here (direct link). The first units will be available by pre-order with limited early bird pricing starting at $1299. The basic pack will include one Loomo, an AC/DC adapter, an extended air tap, and an USB 3.0 Type-C cable — Loomo is scheduled to begin shipping to backers in May 2018.
Loomo will launch with a core set of features:
- Users will be able to ride Loomo as a self-balancing mini-transporter, offering a smooth ride across most terrain types, with speeds of up to 11 MPH, and the capacity to cover 22 miles on a single charge.
- Loomo will autonomously follow users as a robot sidekick thanks to advanced computer vision, even shooting stabilized video on the fly.

More capabilities are planned and will be added through over-the-air (OTA) updates. A free Android-based SDK for professional developers and enthusiasts will be available for Loomo to build on top of the mobility + AI platform.
